Ensuring that both our own staff and our clients’ personnel are effectively trained is a central element of MENARMC’s capability and duty of care. Our Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) program is built on relevant and current field experience, reflecting the development of our own proven instructional techniques. These techniques have been tried and tested in real hostile environments and draw upon the depth of our risk analysis expertise, as well as our understanding of the fluid and often culturally sensitive challenges faced by those operating in volatile regions. The HEAT training package is designed to be interactive and engaging. We actively encourage client participation and questions throughout the course, with instructors drawing on both personal experience and participant input to enrich the learning process. This training is crucial for anyone working in risk-associated, insecure, or hostile environments such as South Sudan. It provides comprehensive coverage of relevant topics and equips participants with practical tools and skills to help them avoid risks wherever possible, manage stressful situations, and prepare for both everyday security threats and worst-case scenarios. Realistic simulations of real-life situations complement essential classroom instruction to ensure a well-rounded, hands-on learning experience.
The overall objective of the three-day HEAT course offered by MENARMC is to increase participants’ awareness of safety and security issues in South Sudan and to equip them with the skills and tools necessary to manage and reduce various types of risks and threats — both known and unforeseen. By the end of the course, participants will be prepared to deploy to South Sudan or other hazardous environments, recognize and avoid potential threats, and respond appropriately to a wide range of safety and security incidents. The high-risk environment training courses we offer include:
Our driver training is delivered using The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) approach, which is the UK-recognised standard for professional driver training. Our lead driving instructor brings a wealth of experience in both driving and vehicle maintenance. He has successfully delivered the RoSPA program to a wide range of students — from beginners to advanced drivers — including security personnel, foreign military, and overseas operators. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding not only of 4×4 driving mechanics and vehicle operation, but also of traction demands, shift points, and proper gear selection. Practical exercises cover off-road braking, acceleration, obstacle avoidance, emergency reactions, and recovery techniques — including improvised methods. The culmination of the course is a challenging unknown-terrain driving exercise that integrates all learned elements. Upon completion of the training, MENARMC Risk Management will submit a full course report. Once the MENARMC instructor has concluded the training, we can provide recommendations on:
MENARMC’s Emergency First Aid at Work course equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to handle first aid emergencies in the workplace — whether in an office setting or out in the field. The course is designed to bring all students back to the basics, but it can be adapted to suit different audiences, including both clerical and field staff. The training also includes modules on managing severe trauma and improvising in situations where a medical kit is not immediately available. The course runs over three days and features a combination of theoretical and practical sessions. By arrangement, it can also be delivered on non-consecutive days — for example, one day per week over three weeks — to accommodate operational requirements.
